Eye Care Essentials

Finding the right eye care product is exhausting. As I’ve said before, there is an insane amount of eye creams, eye gels, and eye masks that don’t actually DO anything. Unfortunately, when it comes to eye creams, it’s common for brands to cut the product size in half and jack the price up by 2-3x more than their regular moisturizers. When you compare the eye cream formula to its corresponding moisturizer, you realize that basically, they’re the same thing. You’re paying three times as much for half as much of a basic moisturizer. Sold on eye care yet? ;) Just kidding, but in all seriousness, eye care is so much more than what you see on the market these days…

Sure, it’s rare to find a product that actually DOES something for those dark circles, puffiness, wrinkles, etc – but they do exist. I’ve spent the last decade testing out hundreds of eye care products, but most especially, the past year. I’ve struggled with dark circles my whole life, which I thought were genetic (turns out they’re not, they’re totally treatable). I also have super puffy eyes and fine lines. So I expect my eye care products to deliver on all 3 accounts!

This is my eye care round up, from 1st place (everyone should try it), to 13th place (not for everyone but a decent player at a fair price point). I don’t have time to go over every single eye care product I’ve ever tried (500+ and counting) but I don’t think that’s necessary since there are so few that actually work. Before we get into my top 13 eye care products, I thought I would organize them quickly by their target. Some of these products are better at dealing with moisturizing the under eye are, some are better at targeting wrinkles, some of them nip puffiness in the bud, and some of them brighten dark circles. Depending on your under eye needs, you can pick and choose which one will suit you best! Of course there are a few eye care products that target ALL of these issues (and of course they are in my top 5 recs below).

Alright, now let’s get into my top 13 eye care recs, and what they do…

1st place – tula multi spectrum eye renewal serum

This is a creamy emulsion type serum (similar to a lightweight eye cream) that comes out of a metal tip dispenser. If you keep it in the fridge overnight like I do, it feels extremely cooling and depuffing when applied. This one works on SO many issues from wrinkles, to dark circles, to puffiness. It’s easily THE most effective eye care product I’ve ever found, out of the hundreds I’ve tried. I highly, highly recommend it for ALL skin types and issues. Please see the ingredient highlights below to understand why... (for 20% off your order use the code: FRANKIE20 at tula.com)

Ingredient Highlights

- probiotics (dark circles, wrinkles, moisture)

- retinyl palmitate (dark circles, wrinkles)

- peptides (collagen production, moisture, wrinkles)

- oat bran extract (anti-inflammatory, good for sensitive skin)

- algae extract (tightening, depuffing)

- caffeine (puffiness)

- lactic acid (resurfacing, dark circles, wrinkles)

- vitamin c (dark circles, wrinkles)

- sodium hyaluronate (hydration)

2nd Place – instytutum truly transforming brightening eye cream

This used to be my favorite eye care product until I found tula, but it’s still my second fav. Instytutum makes some killer eye care! The name of this product is a bit misleading, because it does way better at decreasing puffiness and wrinkles in my opinion. The brightening effect is minimal at best, but it’s definitely there. If you want a well rounded eye care product that will treat most, if not all, of your skin issues, look no further! It’s heavier than the Tula serum but absorbs instantly without a white cast. A little goes an extremely long way.

Ingredient Highlights

- hyaluronic acid (hydration)

- caffeine (puffiness)

- plant stem cells (collagen production, wrinkles)

- peptides (collagen production, moisture, wrinkles)

- retinol (dark circles, wrinkles)

- shea butter (moisture)

3rd place – argentum la potion infinie

This isn’t meant to be used as an eye cream, but it makes an amazing one at that! Argentum uses a pantented silver process that nips wrinkles in the bud. But the part of this cream that is MOST impressive to me is its caffeine content. It is SO effective at depuffing, you can literally see this cream “lifting” your under eye area. I’ve heard it called “a face lift in a bottle”. If you deal with sagging skin, wrinkles, or puffiness – you need this one. It literally lasts 2+ years as an eye care product, and it’s only 1 oz. That’s how little you need to see the effect! Unfortunately this does leave a really strong white cast at first and can feel a bit drying, but it’s actually very moisturizing once it absorbs.

Ingredient Highlights

- silver hydrosol (wrinkles, moisture)

- glycerin (hydration)

- caffeine (puffiness, tightening)

- aloe extract (hydration, anti-inflammatory)

- shea butter (moisture)

4th place – hydropeptide eye authority

I love this type of eye care product – the kind you see instant results from. They included mica to give the cream some color, it actually cosmetically lightens your under eye area immediately after application. So this would be perfect under makeup, and to wear during the daytime. If you’re self conscious about your dark circles and want to conceal them AS you treat them, this is the cream for you. That said, it’s not just cosmetic. This stuff actually works wonders on dark circles & wrinkles over time. It’s not great with puffiness so if that’s your objective, I would look elesewhere.

Ingredient Highlights

- glycerin (hydration)

- mica (concealer)

- squalane (moisture, wrinkles)

- pearl powder (dark circles)

- probiotics (wrinkles, moisture, dark circles)

- plankton (puffiness)

- peptides (dark circles, wrinkles)

5th place – patchology eye gels

OK these are my go-to treatment for puffiness. Sometimes I wake up and it looks like I’ve been crying all night, just because my eyes are so inflammed. The patchology eye gels have been one of the most effective products in my entire skincare routine. They don’t do a ton for wrinkles & dark circles since they’re a one use product, however I see an instant effect with puffiness. Both the daytime & nighttime versions are gorgeous, though the nighttime versions work better on wrinkles.

Ingredient Highlights

- hyaluronic acid (hydration)

- betaine (puffiness, wrinkles, dark circles)

- caffeine (puffiness)

- probiotics (wrinkles, moisture, dark circles)

- collagen (wrinkles)

- allantoin (anti-inflammatory action)

6th place – first aid beauty eye duty triple remedy

This is another concealer and eye care product in one! It cosmetically lightens your under eye area immediately after application. It also contains retinyl palmitate, caffeine, & green tea, but they’re pretty far down in the ingredient list so it’s not the most concentrated. That said, after months of consistant use, I do feel like this did some permanent brightening of my under eye area, as well as dealt with some fine lines. And of course I love that it immediately lightens my dark circles so it’s perfect for daytime use under makeup.

Ingredient Highlights

- glycerin (hydration)

- caffeine (puffiness)

- green tea (wrinkles, puffiness)

- peptides (wrinkles dark circles, moisture)

- retinyl palmitate (wrinkles, dark circles)

7th place – eco your skin volufiline 15 eye essence

This is SUCH a unique eye care product, since I’ve never seen volufiline being used before. If you are 45+ and deal with sagging skin, this is for you! Volufiline is a plant-based ingredient that’s used in butt enhancmenet creams to stimulate the growth of fat cells in the areas its applied. What’s great about it is it’s non hormonal (so it won’t mess with your body’s natural cycles). It’s also topical and all natural. As we age, our face tends to “sink” and no longer looks round & healthy. Volufiline is basically a natural way to get “fillers” under your eyes, so you look far more youthful. I adore this formula and even though I don’t deal with sagging skin yet, I’m so happy I have my future treatment all planned out ahead of time. I know exactly what to buy and use when my skin starts sagging, and now, so do you!

Ingredient Highlights

- hyaluronic acid (hydration)

- niacinamide (dark circles)

- collagen (wrinkles, moisture)

- peptides (wrinkles, dark circles)

8th place – elemis peptide 4 eye recovery cream

I adore elemis as a brand, and I wasn’t quite sold on their peptide4 eye cream at first. But after trying it for a few months, I have to say, I like it. It’s super simple compared to the eye care products I mentioned above – but it’s decent. If you like all natural skin care that’s affordable and need something to moisturize your under eyes, this is perfect for that. You won’t see a massive difference in dark circles & puffiness but it definitely seems to help a tiny bit. However I don’t think this would do much for wrinkles except moisturize them.

Ingredient Highlights

- glycerin (hydration)

- night scented seed stock (puffiness)

- daisy extract (dark circles)

- coconut oil (moisture)

- panthenol (anti-inflammatory)

9th place – bayeco green tea correcting eye cream

This eye cream is simple, but better at dealing with wrinkles than the Elemis & Dr Roebucks creams. Because it contains green tea and peptides, it’s a powerhouse for fine lines. This is another all natural formula, but slightly more effective and SUPER affordable. The texture is super lightweight and absorbs quickly – perfect for all skin types.

Ingredient Highlights

- glycerin (hydration)

- panthenol (anti inflammatory

- green tea (puffiness, wrinkles)

- silk tree extract (anti-inflammatory)

- peptides (wrinkles, dark circles, moisture)

10th place – dr roebucks down under collagen boosting eye treatment

Another super simple, all natural formula that doesn’t deliver on all fronts. This one, however, works great for puffiness! That’s its best asset IMO. If you want a natural eye cream that won’t break the bank, this is for you. It does leave a bit of a white cast which is frustrating so you really have to make sure it absorbs. I would recommend this to dry skin types exclusively.

Ingredient Highlights

- macademia nut seed oil (moisture)

- shea butter (moisture)

- arnica (anti inflammatory)

- coffee seed extract (puffiness)

- glycerin (hydration)

11th place – dr loretta tightening eye gel

This is the only eye gel in this entire lineup so if you have oily skin and you’re looking for a water based eye product that won’t feel greasy – look no further! I saw very little results from this one, the most I can say about it is it does seem to brighten the under eye area over the course of months. I love the inclusion of algae for puffiness but it takes more a few different layers of this before I see any tightening.

Ingredient Highlights

- antioxidant complex (anti-inflammatory, wrinkles)

- microalgae (puffiness, moisture, hydration)

- chromabright (dark circles)

- pepitdes (wrinkles, dark circles, moisture)

12th place – malie organics luxe eye cream

This is a cream that’s on the thicker side of things, but it does absorb pretty quickly. If you like to stay away from silicones and enjoy a more natural formula – this is for you. It’s based entirely on natural ingredients and doesn’t have retinol in any form unfortunately, but I do think it works pretty well for moisture & wrinkles. It does nothing for dark circles however.

Ingredient Highlights

- aloe (hydration)

- lactic acid (wrinkles, dark circles)

- squalane (moisture, wrinkles)

- vitamin c (dark circles, wrinkles)

- panthenol (anti-inflammatory)

- peptides (wrinkles, dark circles)

- rosehip (wrinkles, moisture)

- papaya enzymes (wrinkles, dark circles)

- cucumber (puffiness, anti-inflammatory)

- green tea (puffiness)

13th place – ground plan deep wrinkle treatment eye cream

This is also a natural formula that’s very basic, but it’s perfect for you if you want to deal with wrinkles. It’s got a lightweight gel texture and is very hydrating, a little bit goes a long way. This one isn’t super complex (hence the fact that it got last place), but it’s worth mentioning if you want an affordable eye cream that’s going to last forever. The entire Ground Plan line is perfect for sensitive skin, especially!

Ingredient Highlights

- argan oil (moisture)

- licorice root (puffiness)

- hyaluronic acid (hydration)

- green tea (puffiness, wrinkles)

I hope this round up was helpful, and I hope you were able to find the right eye care product for your needs! With affection, always, Frankie
