Meet Elemis - Brand Overview
Elemis is a British luxury brand that is known throughout the world for its innovative blend of science based ingredients and natural actives. It is the best of both worlds! The brand was created by an esthetician and massage therapist, and so from the very beginning their focus has been on skincare education. Elemis also has multiple philanthropic outlets where they donate a percentage of all sales to breast cancer research, women’s reproductive health, and other non-profit endeavors. If the ethos of a company matters as much to you as it does to me, I think you’ll be incredibly pleased with Elemis on the whole.
They’ve been going strong since the 1990’s and have put so much love, thought, research, and effort into their formulas. Each formula is tested by a third party for efficacy and safety with the skin.
This is a skincare range I’ve been interested in for ages, so when they sent me some things to try I was over the moon! I’d heard of Elemis for years but had only ever tried their toners. For some reason I had always compared them to Vichy in my mind, another luxury brand that (in my opinion) is simply overpriced for what you actually get and not very well formulated. After testing out these Elemis products for the past month, I must say I was terribly wrong. Elemis is nothing at all like Vichy! Their formulas and products actually work! And their ingredient lists are beautiful. Many of the products do contain perfume but most of them are made without artificial coloring, aluminum, etc. They’ve really put their money straight into cutting edge botanicals, so if you like natural ingredients, gorgeous packaging, professional grade formulas, and cutting edge research, Elemis is for you. It also happens to be extremely effective!
I wanted to review each product they sent, and go over the ingredients, price point, efficacy, etc. I hope you guys find this review useful and I hope it helps you choose which products from Elemis you might want to buy next!
This is probably the product that Elemis is most known for! A jar of it sells every 9 seconds. The formula is packed with actives like chlorella which detoxifies the skin and stops collagen and elastin from breaking down. It also was formulated to be super moisturizing – one application should last almost 12 hours! As someone with dry, dehydrated skin, this was music to my ears and I couldn’t wait to test it out.
✨wheat germ oil
✨carrot root extract
✨gingko biloba extract
Elemis recommends using this cream in the morning, but since I do a pretty minimal skincare routine in the mornings, I prefer to save it for my nighttime routine. Generally, by the end of the day, my skin is at its worst. It’s dry, dehydrated, and sensitive. Possibly even clogged by environmental pollutants and just tired overall. Using an intensive moisturizer is a MUST for me. And this one lasts all night so I wake up with glowing, hydrated, moisturized skin.
The texture is very light and fluffy, and it disappears into the skin quickly without leaving any grease or white cast. I did feel like I needed to use a lot of it to cover my whole face, which could get expensive in the long run. It blends beautifully with their pro-collagen marine oil – a lightweight facial oil infused with seaweed for its anti-aging benefits. Basically, I see these two products as being a pair… the one boosts the other. And my dry skin loves them! The facial oil deals with dryness and the marine cream deals with my dehydration. Those with combo or oily skin might want to skip the facial oil and go straight to the moisturizer, but it depends on your personal preference.
$128 for 50ml. I’m not going to beat around the bush here, it’s a lot. And most people can’t afford it on an ongoing basis. I do feel like I go through quite a bit of this cream at a time, so I’m estimating that one jar will last me about a month or two max, with nightly use. Although I would love to continue purchasing it, it might need to be a “special occasion” type product. I did notice my skin was firmer when I used the cream and it also seemed to “fill in” my fine lines and wrinkles after application. The long term benefits are yet to be seen, but I’m interested in sticking it out to see!
Aging skin is a huge focus of mine. This pro-collagen marine cream did not disappoint. I noticed an intense boost of hydration whenever I applied it. I also couldn’t be more in love with the scent and textural experience! It smells absolutely divine, and reminds me a bit of their frangipani monoi body oil. Instantly relaxing and makes you feel like you’re on a tropical island somewhere. What I love about Elemis is that each of their products are so sensual, from start to finish. They put an entire experience in a jar or bottle, so that alone may warrant the hefty price tag.
WOULD I REPURCHASE?
Absolutely! I could not be more in love. Honestly, it’s worth every bit of the $128. I’m not sure I can afford buying a new tub every month, but I will definitely be repurchasing for birthdays and special occasions! And of course, if I get a raise at work, it’s going straight into my elemis fund (yes a part of my bank account is now devoted to this line haha).
PRO-COLLAGEN CLEANSING BALM
Next up we have the pro-collagen cleansing balm which has a reputation in the skincare world as being one of the best cleansing balms ever. It’s deeply, deeply moisturizing and insanely luxurious. It even comes with its own cleansing cloth! If you wear make-up or have dry skin, using an oil or balm cleanser is a must. I like to follow up afterwards with a gel or water based cleansing formula, but nothing could ever replace this balm in my routine. It’s priceless.
✨mimosa floral wax
✨rose floral wax
✨elderberry seed oil
✨padina pavonica extract
✨oat kernal oil
As you can see, this formula has multiple soothing ingredients, starting with the elderberry oil and ending with the chamomile extract. It also emulsifies beautifully with water and is ultra hydrating thanks to humectants like glycerin. But ultimately what makes this cleansing balm so magical to me is its ability to moisturize dry skin deeply. I’ve always HATED the cleansing step, my skin feels stripped and tight afterwards. However, this balm has totally changed the cleansing game for me. I have yet to find a better one!
The texture is quite heavy but it spreads easily and a little bit covers the whole face! When massaged into the skin, you’ll see all your makeup and dirt start to come off. It smells heavenly, like lavender, but isn’t heavily fragranced thankfully. It does taste terrible if you accidentally get some if it in your mouth, so be careful! I learned the hard way while washing it off my face. ;)
$64.00 for 3.75 oz. The jar is big, REALLY big. And because it’s so heavy and concentrated, it only takes the tiniest amount to cleanse your face! I suspect that this formula will last me all year, which is amazing. Yes $64 might seem like a lot to spend on cleansing, and it is. After all, this is a wash-off product so definitely not where I like to spend my money. But that said, I think it’s VERY much worth picking up. It should last me at least 8+ months, which makes it $8 or less a month. It’s incredibly reasonable if you think of it like that! I see absolutely no reason not to repurchase this one, and I plan to buy it again and again!
So my favorite way to use this cleansing balm is as a mask! I first massage it into my skin to get all the grime of the day off. Then I let it sit for 10 minutes and deeply moisturize. Since I don’t wear makeup, I really like cleansing balms for their moisturizing effects. I gently wipe it off with a wet cleansing cloth (which is provided in the box), and follow up with a gel cleanser. After using this balm, my skin is moisturized and glowing, and I noticed it’s FAR less sensitive than usual because its moisture barrier isn’t compromised! If you have red, irritable skin, a good cleansing regimen is a MUST. Most cleansers are so stripping, and set your skin up for irritation. Whenever I start my routine with this cleansing balm, all my other products work better.
WOULD I REPURCHASE?:
100% yes. This is truly one of the most amazing products I’ve ever found. I love how it feels, how it works, and what it does to my skin. For a wash off product, this is making a huge impact on my overall skin health! I’m insanely impressed.
As someone with dry skin, I am a huge fan of facial oils. Elemis’ facial oils come in their signature bottles that can only be described as a work of art. I recognize them from a mile away! They’re gorgeous, stunning, glass. And the ingredients are beautiful too!
✨Isoamyl Cocoate (aka a natural emollient derived from sugar beets and coconut oil. that absorbs quickly into the skin and has a non-oily skin feel)
✨poppy seed oil
✨golden seaweed extract
✨padina pavonica extract
This facial oil was MADE for normal to oily skin with aging concerns. Since most people with aging skin are on the dry side, I do wish it was a little thicker, but that’s just a personal preference (I like my facial oils super thick and moisturizing, most people find that greasy). Golden seaweed and kelp help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as plump the skin.
If you have oily or combo skin, you will love this stuff. It’s so incredibly lightweight and doesn’t have a greasy finish like most facial oils. The scent is out of this world! Like most elemis products, it was formulated to be an EXPERIENCE, not just a product. It smells like being in a spa.
$79.00 for 15ml. Again, it’s a lot for what you get. I have exceptionally dry skin which means I go through facial oils pretty fast. This $80 treatment would last me about a month or two max with nightly use. I adore the product packaging, the scent, the texture. But I feel like it’s overpriced for what you get. That’s just my personal opinion. The ingredients aren’t THAT expensive to source considering, at least compared to other elemis products.
So this facial oil was specifically formulated to help with fine lines and wrinkles, and I have plenty of them! Obviously I wasn’t expecting to see any major improvements immediately, because a lot of wrinkle care is about prevention. But that said, I didn’t notice any specific plumping benefits, nor did I feel like it “filled in” my fine lines and wrinkles as much as my Lavido facial oil does. That one is much thicker and heavier, however, so that could be the difference.
WOULD I REPURCHASE?:
As much as it pains me to say this, I’m going to go with no. I adore this facial oil and will use it up, down to the very last drop. But I just can’t justify spending $80 on a 15ml for something this lightweight. If it wasn’t packaged so well and the bottle wasn’t so pretty, I wouldn’t have even noticed it. I don’t find the formula particularly innovative, but again, I have REALLY high standards because Elemis is always pushing the boundaries with their formulas. Their work is remarkable.
That’s not to say that this facial oil is bad by any means. Truly, it’s one of my top 10! I just don’t think I can justify the price point, that’s all. But that said, they have a pro-definition facial oil that I’m very keen on, it has sesame and evening primrose seed oils which are much thicker and more moisturizing for my dry skin.
I am speechless. This product is unreal!! If you’ve never heard of a cream oil before that’s because they never existed before Elemis dreamed them up. I swear, this brand is killing me with their formulas. I feel like I’ve died and gone to skincare heaven, haha. This cream oil is EASILY my favorite product from the brand, and that’s saying a lot because I had over a 90%+ success rate with them so far!
✨night scented stock seed oil (aka a very rich source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids).
✨perilla seed oil (aka an emollient, lightweight oil protects and conditions the skin. Rich in vitamins, essential fatty acids and polyphenols protects the healthy appearance of cells)
✨peptide4 (aka a patented yeast peptide designed using advanced molecular biology and inspired by circadian rhythms to help support the skin’s own ‘synchronised internal clock’)
✨ylang ylang oil
✨orange peel oil
✨lemon peel oil
This cream-oil combines the hydration of a cream and the protection of an oil. It’s truly the best of both worlds! Peptide4 Night Cream-Oil was specifically designed to be used at night, in conjunction with the skin’s natural circadian rhythms. It’s incredibly reparative for the skin, and helps you wake up with a balanced, healthy looking face and neck.
I can barely describe this product, you HAVE to try it for yourself! Basically it comes out looking like any lightweight cream formula (almost like a lotion texture) but when you pat it into the skin is transforms into a luxurious oil!! It’s unreal! Unlike a facial oil, however, it doesn’t end up making your skin look greasy. The water content stays in tact, and “bursts” onto the skin, giving you an intensely hydrated look. If you’ve ever applied a gel moisturizer after using a facial oil, that’s exactly what this oil-cream looks like on the skin! It absorbs instantly but provides an amazing protection and glow… I truly look like I applied a highlighter after using this one. I’m also considering doing a story post about this texture, it’s in a league of its own and can’t be described in words. I almost need to SHOW you guys via video how this one works!
$59 for 30ml. Like many Elemis products, it IS on the expensive side of things. But my god, I’ve never come across anything like this! I would repurchase in a HEARTBEAT. It’s truly my favorite product I’ve tried all year. It smells incredible, feels incredible, and makes my skin LOOK incredible. If you can only afford ONE Elemis product this should be your choice. Their entire line is fabulous but this cream-oil is one of the best examples of how damn innovative Elemis is. Are they magic? I’m pretty convinced.
I have never tried a skincare product geared towards the skin’s natural circadian rhythms. Thinking back, I’ve definitely designed my own night time routines around repairing and restoring, but I’ve never found a product that does all of that for me! This cream oil is a delight to use. It smells divine, feels like a soft puffy cloud, and makes my skin look incredibly plump and healthy. Without sleep I look ragged and run down but this cream-oil has been my secret weapon during those times. Obviously no product can fully replace sleep, but this cream-oil can definitely make you feel and look better. I apply it in the evenings and by morning my skin is bright and plump again.
WOULD I REPURCHASE?:
YES! I already have. Seriously, this cream oil is something I cannot be without, ever. You’ll feel the same once you try it. Based on the independent user trials, I’m not alone in that opinon. An astounding 100% of users agreed that this product made them look like they had 8 hours of sleep. 98% agreed that it was the BEST overnight treatment they had EVER used. 99% agreed that their skin looked 5 years younger. I mean, you can’t make these results up!
I recently did a post about eye masks and eye care in general. If you’re like me, you’ve tried a LOT of eye care products and been disappointed by 90%+ of them! The under-eye area is a difficult one to navigate, especially when it comes to skincare! Most brands charge twice as much for half as much product, and it’s rare to find anything that actually works (and isn’t just a glorified moisturizer!)
So that said, I did not have high expectations for these eye gels, but I was wrong! These 20 minute eye masks are a total dream.
✨camellia sinesis leaf
✨padina pavonica thallus extract
✨fermented yuzu extract
As you can see from the ingredient highlights, these eye masks don’t contain caffeine or retinol which are my two favorite eye care ingredients! Perhaps that’s why I didn’t have high hopes. In past experiences, the only eye masks or creams that ever worked for me contained both caffeine and retinol, so I had been trained to keep an eye out for them!
These elemis eye masks were a total surprise for me! Read on to find out why...
These are beautifully thick, similar to my Viicode eye masks and nothing at all like Shangpree’s or Patchology’s! If you are used to flimsy eye masks that fall apart with any friction, you’ll be so pleased with these. They are SO thick and they stay in place without moving around! I love how saturated with the essence they are without being sticky or tacky.
$76.00 for 6 eye mask packets (each packet contains 2, so 12 masks in total). I’m not going to beat around the bush here, this is a really high price for a 20 minute eye treatment. Basically you’re spending $13 a pop. I adore the ingredient list and how well these work, but I’m a bit confused at the price point here. If they were $30 for 6, I would repurchase them in a HEARTBEAT! The masks give me instant results and $5 a pop is a lot, but basically no different than treating yourself to a coffee. Honestly I wish they had priced these a bit more affordably because I’m not sure the ingredient list warrants the current price. But that said, if money is no object, I would definitely recommend this eye treatment. This is one of the few times that I’ve seen immediate results from an eye product!
So again, I expected nothing out of these masks and was beyond happy with my results. I really like Patchology’s eye gels which have caffeine and retinol (my two HG ingredients) but I actually find Elemis’ masks to be faster acting! That means, when I apply them, I literally get instant results. They deal with puffiness SO well, so if you wake up with bags under your eyes, you can just pop these on and go about your day. The bags will shrink within 20 minutes, and you’ll be left with smooth, hydrated, more awake-looking eyes. I only have 6 masks in my possession so I can’t really speak to their ability to treat dark circles or wrinkles. Frankly, I haven’t been using them long enough to notice! Looking over the ingredient list though, they should work well for wrinkles. At the end of the day, these are made for tightening and depuffing. Instead of leaving your eye area feeling tight and dry, however, they included hyaluronic acid so you’d feel plump and moisturized, WHILE being depuffed. I'm totally in love.
WOULD I REPURCHASE?:
If it was more affordably priced, absolutely! Currently I just can’t swing $13 for a 20 minute treatment on an ongoing basis. It's just too much for me. However, to play devil’s advocate, I also haven’t found a mask that INSTANTLY depuffs me before. So for a special occasion, wedding, etc I would definitely repurchase these, even at the high price point! They work amazingly well for tired, puffy eyes and make me feel better overall. Considering that Elemis is all about “bringing the spa home”, I justify the price points by saying “essentially, I’m getting a facial here. Which would cost way more. So this is ok”. ;) You may call that fooling myself, but I think it’s fair. The results speak for themselves.
Another product from Elemis that renders me speechless. I have been inhaling this goodness nonstop since it arrived and truly can’t even begin to describe how gorgeous it is. It is unlike ANY body oil I’ve ever come across. Frangipani is one of my favorite scents in the whole world, and this is the first time I’ve found a product that ACTUALLY smells like it. Because the natural extract is SO expensive to obtain, most companies don’t use the real stuff. Elemis, however does. As someone who used to work with natural perfume, I can’t tell you how much this body oil is worth. It could cost 4x what they’re charging, and it would STILL be fair. This is one of those few times I actually think a product is UNDERvalued haha. This is not a body oil… it’s a work of art. It’s a perfumer’s idea of heaven in a bottle. It is a dry skin savior in every sense of the word. I could go and on and on about this.
So some people might look at this list and cynically think “they’re using aroma chemicals, so it’s not THAT expensive to make, is it?” Let me tell you, based on the scent alone, this stuff is PACKED with the natural extract. It smells exactly like my frangipani absolute from Eden Botanicals which costs me $110 for 10 grams (not even enough to scent one of these bottles!) The perfume\aroma chemicals may help lessen the cost a little, but they could never replace what the natural extract is doing in this formula. It doesn’t just smell good, it deeply deeply moisturizes the skin too! When combined with gardenia extract\monoi this is a powerhouse combo for the most damaged of skin.
This body oil is like liquid silk. It does solidify in temperatures below 76 degrees Fahrenheit, so that’s the only downside of the product. Trying to warm it up is a semi-pain… it takes ages if the bottle is immersed in hot water. I’ve come up with an easier alternative, placing it next to my space heater in the bathroom for a few minutes. It liquifies almost instantly and is ready to apply! When this body oil is in its ideal liquid state it is truly magic. You’ll forget any frustration you felt about warming it up in a heartbeat. Imagine spreading silk on your legs, that is what this frangipani monoi body oil feels like. It smells like heaven and makes dry skin feel SO soft and moisturized. The effects last at least 10+ hours!
$56 for 100ml. This is an AMAZING price point, you guys. It costs $17 per oz! I would happily pay double or triple for this product, simply for the moisturizing benefits and fragrance. In general, I think $56 is way too much for a basic body oil. So I’m not one to spend $50+ on just ANYTHING. When I say this body oil is worth more than they’re charging, I mean it. Coconut oil may be a cheap base but the gardenia and frangipani extracts are worth their weight in gold. This is no basic body oil. It’s not even a good body oil. It’s MAGIC. I am transported to a tropical paradise every time I apply this… it feels like I’m on a beach somewhere.
I feel like I’ve already talked about this product way too much at this point, so I’ll just sum up my experience – this product speaks to my body, mind, and soul. It transports me in every sense of the word while treating my dry skin to the most beautiful, protective moisture. My skin feels smooth and silky for hours afterwards and I smell like heaven. The scent is strong enough that I don’t need to wear perfume (nor would I want to! It would totally interfere with this magical plumeria scent). If you want a body oil that can double as a perfume in a heartbeat, you need this frangipani magic. It’s better than any other perfume I own.
WOULD I REPURCHASE?
YES! I already have. I will never ever be without this body oil, Elemis has earned a lifelong fan in me.
I think you can guess how I feel about this shower cream based on my review of the body oil above. Elemis did NOT skimp on these, my friends. I had given up entirely on shower gels, body soaps, etc because they dry my skin out terribly. Lately I’ve just been using leftovers of my shampoo to wash my body, it’s the only way I kept my moisture barrier from being compromised.
When Elemis’ shower cream showed up, it could not have been at a better time.
✨sesame seed oil
As you can see this product is insanely gentle! If you’ve had a terrible time with body soaps and gels, you will be over the moon with this one. Not only does it NOT strip my sensitive skin of moisture, but it actually REPLENISHES my moisture levels without making me feel greasy or clogged. It’s a dream come true! Imagine being able to prevent bacterial breakouts, cleanse the skin, and end up with an even MORE moisturized, healthy glow afterwards? It sounds too good to be true but it’s apparently possible! I wouldn’t have believed it before trying this shower cream out, but I’m totally sold.
SO thick and creamy but melts into the skin beautifully and washes away easily. A little bit goes a long way – I’ve used this shower cream 3-4 times a week for the past month and haven’t even made the slightest dent in the bottle. About a teaspoon amount is plenty to cover my entire body! This is an amazing deal you guys. This product is also SO beautifully scented that I walk out of the bathroom smelling amazing! I don’t even need to use my frangipani body oil or perfume when I use this shower cream. The fragrance lingers for hours and I smell natural and lovely (not soapy in the slightest).
$40 for 200ml (aka 6 oz). Again, I’m blown away. This product is only $6 per oz and is worth so much more than they’re charging. If you read my reviews of Elemis’ other products, you might get the feeling that I don’t like to spend an arm and leg on skincare in general. You’d be right. So it’s a pretty big deal when I think a product is worth MORE than the retail price haha. I can’t believe how little of this shower cream I need to use to get a good wash. It will last me positively forever, and it also doubles a perfume in a pinch. I’m beyond thrilled with it.
I have never ever found a body care line that I liked. There has always been too many problems… either they were overpriced, smelled like soap, dried out my skin, caused redness and irritation, or had terrible textures. This is the first and only time I have truly fallen for a body care range, and I’ve fallen hard! The shower cream leaves my skin feeling the smoothest and softest its EVER been, and it has completely restored my moisture barrier. I no longer walk out of the shower feeling stripped, tight, and in pain. I actually look forward to showering (which is a first).
WOULD I REPURCHASE?:
I would in a heartbeat and plan to! The frangipani monoi products from Elemis are unbelievable – beautifully scented, luxurious, and effective. These are at the top of my list of favorite products ever, right up there with Elemis’ peptide4 night recovery cream oil and their cleansing balm. I suggest you purchase them immediately. The value of this shower cream is far beyond what it costs, and the same goes for the body oil. Both products have convinced me to try more of Elemis’ body care and I can’t wait to place another order!
I can’t thank Stephanie and the kind team at Elemis enough. This package was just BEYOND gorgeous, and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of these products. Elemis is quickly becoming one of my favorite skincare ranges ever and I’m so grateful to have discovered them.
What’s in my Elemis cart right now? Too many things to count! Here are some of the highlights though:
-Pro-collagen eye renewal
-Pro-collagen quartz lift serum
-BIOTEC skin energizing day cream
-Pro-definition eye & lip contour cream
-Pro-collagen marine mask
-Frangipani monoi body cream
I can't wait to test out more of the line and share it with you. Have you tried anything from their line? Let me know if you need any product recs, I'm beyond smitten with this skincare brand and have so many favorites to share with you guys!
