Tula is a probiotic infused, cruelty-free line that stands out in the most beautiful way. I’ve never seen brighter, bluer packaging or more innovative formulas. Even though they slightly more expensive than some ranges, I really feel like the quality and research that goes into the formulas is reflected in the price point. You get what you pay for, essentially. (And I don’t think that’s true of most skincare lines).
If you don’t have time to read the entire review below, my absolute favorites were the kefir recovery mask and aqua infusion power liquid! But the whole line was surprisingly good. I was left nothing short of impressed with these formulas, even the ones that weren’t geared towards my skin type! Because Tula puts so much energy into creating gentle, hydrating products that are safe for all skin types, I really feel like their skincare line is universal. Of course certain products will work better for certain skin types, but they’re really good at balancing things out. For example, their exfoliating clay mask? It has a ton of clarifying ingredients for those with acneic skin. It’s also great at controlling sebum production. But at the same time, they mixed in a bunch of hydrators and moisturizers, like shea butter and olive fruit oil so it doesn’t strip your skin or compromise your moisture barrier. That is the definition of my experience with Tula – gentle, effective, universal!
Before I go into each one in detail, here are the products that are on my repurchase list – the Kefir Ultimate Recovery Mask, Aqua Infusion Power Liquid, Pro-Glycolic 10% pH Resurfacing Gel, Purifying Cleanser, and Hydrating Day & Night Cream!
Purifying Cleanser* – this is a really lovely gel cleanser that lathers up without stripping my face of much needed moisture! It contains lactic acid which naturally exfoliates, prebiotics and probiotics for their anti-inflammatory action, and turmeric + blueberries for their antioxidant power. I do feel like I still need to use an oil or balm cleanser first, but that’s because I’m a big fan of double cleansing method. This is the perfect 2nd cleanse – it’s hydrating but also really good at cleaning out congestion and dealing with breakouts. I’m usually not a huge fan of gel cleansers in general but this is perfect for my dry skin!
Hydrating Day & Night Cream* – this is one of my FAVORITE products from tula! It has retinol (goodbye crappy skin texture and wrinkles!), watermelon extract (goodbye dehydration!), probiotics (goodbye inflammation!), and squalane (goodbye dryness!). 😂 But by no means is this a thick, heavy cream. On the contrary, it’s light and fluffy like a cloud, and sinks in without any residue. Those with dry skin will definitely need to use a facial oil as well, but I love using this one for summer! It’s the perfect daytime moisturizer. For nighttime use, I like to combine with a sleeping mask for extra hydration. The only downside I could possibly think of is that it has a soapy fragrance to it. It’s not TOO strong, but definitely detectable. Otherwise, this is pure magic!
Aqua Infusion Oil-Free Gel Cream* – since my dry skin needs all the oil it can get, I usually don’t go for formulas like this. I have to say though, this is gorgeous! It’s got fermented rice which is supposed to help reduce pore size, and prickly pear extract which helps to hydrate and soothe redness. It’s also a really good ingredient for aging skin, reducing wrinkles and fine lines. The texture of this gel-cream is my favorite! It’s EXACTLY in between a gel and cream. Bouncy, jelly-like, and ever so slightly creamy (but not fluffy and whipped like their day & night cream). Overall I would recommend this product to those with oily or combo skin, but those with dry skin like myself can make it work for them if you combine with a facial oil and heavier moisturizer. I really like this one, you guys! I know I compared this to laneige's water sleeping mask in my unboxing stories but it's quite a bit lighter than I thought. The texture is creamy and hydrating but not quite a sleeping mask level.
Pro-Glycolic 10% pH Resurfacing Gel* – this one is fragrance free and PACKED with hylaruonic acid, mushroom, and beet extract aka natural humectants that are insanely hydrating. Mushroom extract is 400x more hydrating than HA by itself! It also combines turmeric and blueberry extracts for their anti-inflammatory action. Although 10% is a fairly high solution, I feel like this gel is still on the gentle side of things. Tula made sure it wouldn’t strip your skin or compromise the moisture barrier. If you like krave beauty’s kale-lalu-yAHA, this is really similar! Hydrating but effective. The one thing I like about Tula’s is that they house it in glass instead of plastic. It may seem like just an aesthetic thing, but I really do prefer glass packaging. That said, kale-lalu-yAHA is cheaper, so go with what you can afford! 😄 This pro-glycolic 10% gel makes my skin GLOW!
Dual-Phase Skin Reviving Treatment Pads* – this is an AHA and BHA combination exfoliant in the form of individual pads. You remove one from its packaging, it looks like a little mitt! Basically you use your fingers to guide it along your face, and when you’re doing dispensing the treatment, you flip it over to the other side to further exfoliate. I really like these one-use treatments. They’re not the most environmentally friendly but they’re perfect for travel! I do feel that $60 for 16 pads is quite a lot, so I’m not sure if I’ll repurchase these, especially since their other exfoliating products are so much more affordable. BUT I would definitely purchase these for a special event (ie wedding or something where you want perfect skin). They’re not at all drying or irritating to my sensitive skin!
Aqua Infusion Power Liquid* – even though this caused a little purging at first (I think my skin wasn’t used to the probiotics), I absolutely love it now. This serum is SO innovative! It has 10,000 micro-bubbles filled with water that burst upon application. Light as a liquid, yet super powerful. With prickly pear extract to calm skin and hydrate deeply, hyaluronic acid to plump, and probiotics to soothe inflammation and lock in moisture, it’s basically my ideal serum treatment. I am absolutely head over heels with the texture. It feels insanely good on my dehydrated skin. Perfect for dry and oily types alike!
Exfoliating Treatment Mask* – so first things first, this IS a clay mask so I was worried it would be quite drying. However sobyean oil and glycerin are amongst the very first few ingredients, followed by shea butter, olive fruit oil, safflower, milk protein, etc so it’s incredibly well balanced. I have to tip my hat off to the @tula team, they really know how to formulate a good product! Generally clay masks aren’t my thing but I have to make an exception for this one. It’s moisturizing, clarifying, and has lactic acid to gently exfoliate. It also has retinol, vitamin c, turmeric, green tea, etc so it’s packed with nutrients! They also don’t use plastic microbeads! The micro-encapsulated beads they DO use are plant based, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly! Yay! They are gentle and enriched with jojoba oil so they moisturize your skin while they exfoliate.
Tula kefir ultimate mask* – this is seriously my FAVORITE product from the entire line! If you have dry skin, this is a must-have. This is the best hydrating mask I’ve ever used, and independent trials agree with me. It’s got glycerin, kefir, ceramides, apple extract, vitamin c, cactus extract (anti-aging), vitamin e, and lactic acid. The formula is creamy and heavy, much heavier than their day & night cream. But it isn’t greasy at all. It feels absolutely beautiful on my skin… like a cloud. My favorite way to use it is before I take a shower. It protects my face from harsh water and keeps it from getting dehydrated and red. If you’re looking for something to instantly moisturize your skin and soothe irritation, this is the answer.
Endless thanks to the amazing Tula team for their generosity. I was blown away by their packaging, their customer service, and the formulas themselves. So much love has gone into this line and it’s quickly becoming one of my favs! If you’d like to try probiotic skincare for the first time, they have several starter kits which are more affordably priced! The anti-aging one is going straight on my shopping list – it includes their Multi-Spectrum Eye Renewal Serum which has an amazing reputation.
